1. Design and Pattern Making
- Designing: Designers create the garment styles, working with current fashion trends or custom client requirements. They produce sketches, design drafts, and often work with 3D models.
- Pattern Making: Once a design is approved, patterns (blueprints for cutting fabric) are created for each piece of the garment. Patterns are crucial for ensuring the proper fit and shape.
2. Fabric Sourcing and Quality Control
- Fabric Procurement: Factories source fabrics from suppliers. The fabric choice depends on the type of garment and intended quality level.
- Quality Inspection: Fabrics are inspected for defects, color consistency, and quality. Any discrepancies are usually reported back to the supplier.
3. Cutting and Layering
- Layering: Fabrics are layered on cutting tables. In bulk production, multiple layers are cut simultaneously to increase efficiency.
- Cutting: Using patterns as guides, workers or automated machines cut fabric pieces for each part of the garment (e.g., sleeves, collars).
4. Sewing and Assembly
- This stage involves sewing machines where different garment parts are stitched together. Factories typically have specialized machines for different stitches, like overlock, flatlock, and coverstitch.
- The assembly line is structured so each worker performs a specific part of the sewing process to enhance efficiency.
5. Finishing
- Trimming and Cleaning: Excess threads and fabric are removed.
- Ironing/Pressing: Garments are pressed to give them a finished look.
- Labeling and Packaging: Labels are attached, and garments are packed according to brand standards.
6. Quality Control and Inspection
- After production, garments go through a final inspection to check for any issues with stitching, fit, and overall quality. This step is essential to maintain brand standards.
7. Packing and Shipping
- Once quality control is cleared, garments are packed according to customer requirements and prepared for shipment.
